Find Options for Tree Trimming Assistance

Do not climb trees or trim trees that are located near power lines, and keep children from doing the same. Even momentary contact with a powerline, or a tree or tree branch that is in contact with a power line, can severely injure or kill. Hiring a qualified contractor to trim trees near power lines is a safer alternative. Contact ComEd if you have any questions about tree trimming in these situations.

ComEd does not perform non-emergency tree trimming for the wire running directly to customers’ meters (the service wire). If you plan to do any trimming on your own, or hire a contractor to trim, ComEd will either drop or de-energize your service wire, and will re-connect it once trimming is complete. Your home will be without power until your service line is re-connected. There is no charge for this service.

Please call us at 800-EDISON-1 and a ComEd representative will contact you as soon as possible to schedule the date and time of the service wire drop.

Several options are available for trees that are near power lines between utility poles located on your property.

Line Clearance by ComEd
ComEd’s qualified line clearance tree trimmers can provide clearance around primary and secondary lines so that a private contractor can safely trim or remove the rest of your tree. Please contact us to get more information about this service and a written estimate for the work.

De-energize Lines
ComEd will, in certain cases, stop the electricity flowing through the power lines near the tree(s) in question, allowing a private contractor to work around de-energized lines. Please contact ComEd at 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661) and request a “line maintenance investigation” (LMI) to see if this is an option for you. There is no charge for this inquiry.

Private Contractor
You may also consult a non-ComEd tree contractor that employs line clearance qualified tree trimmers (in accordance with industry safety requirements found in the current version of ANSI Z133.1) to trim or remove your tree. You are responsible for all costs associated with this option.

You may contact ComEd at 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661) should you have additional questions about these options.
