See Your Business in a New Light

Effective July 15, 2015, all projects applying for Smart Ideas® Standard or Custom incentives will be placed on a waitlist, due to the high volume of Program Year 8 (PY8) Pre-Approval Applications received. A waitlist is necessary to ensure funding availability for approved projects. All projects now require pre-approval.

The waitlist only applies to Standard/Custom incentives. It does not affect other ComEd Energy Efficiency Program elements such as Assessments, Business Instant Lighting Discounts, Data Centers, New Construction Service, Optimization/Studies, Residential or Small Business Energy Savings.  Continue to check this web page for updates or contact us at 855-433-2700 with any questions.

The ComEd Smart Ideas® Energy Efficiency program offers cash incentives for energy-efficient lighting, including fixture replacements and retrofits, sensors and controls. Instant incentives for LED screw-in bulbs, and high efficiency linear fluorescent lamps are also available from lighting distributors throughout ComEd’s service territory.

Large businesses with diverse lighting needs may be able to reduce their lighting use by more than 50 percent with a lighting control system. Smart Ideas offers incentives for intelligent, software-based control systems that optimize the performance of a network of efficient light fixtures and sensors.

Advances in Technology

Lighting is essential for all businesses. It is also a major energy expense - accounting for 30 percent to 60 percent of annual electric costs for businesses.

High-intensity discharge (HID) sources are the most common lamps used outdoors. As this type of lighting is not suitable to dimming or frequent on-off switching, these lights are typically left on all night, even when the parking lot or garage is mostly or completely empty.

As technology continues to advance, there are new energy efficiency lighting options that can save energy and money, both indoors and out.

Review Specifications

Please review the technical specifications of your lighting project to ensure you qualify for our incentives. Some measures, such as new fixture installation and delamping projects, require pre-approval before beginning a project.
