Making Efficiency Upgrades Affordable

Illinois Energy Efficiency Loans provide special financing for the purchase and installation of qualified energy-efficiency products and services. Eligible small business owners (with peak demands <100kW) who own the property and are listed as the utility account holder may apply. Your loan payment will be billed monthly on your ComEd bill.

ComEd is one of three Illinois utilities offering Energy Efficiency Loans, along with Ameren Illinois and Nicor Gas. Each utility may have additional energy-efficient products and services that qualify for these loans. Customers can view detailed loan information and review the products and services available from each utility.

This program is offered by ComEd in accordance with Illinois public law.

Eligibility Requirements

  • All borrowers must be listed on the utility account
  • The borrower must have an active utility account
  • For leased or rented commercial properties, the utility account must be in the name of the property owner 
  • Qualifying small businesses and multi-family buildings must have peak demand of 100kW or below 
  • Current utility account cannot have been cut off for non-payment in the past 12 months nor have a pending cutoff for non-payment 
  • Utility account cannot be under a deferred payment agreement or have a pending deferred payment agreement 
  • Utility requirements must be met from application through loan closing when a second and final utility eligibility check will be performed 
  • Borrower must have a credit score of 640 or better

Prequalify Before You Purchase

You must pre-qualify for your loan prior to the purchase of any of these products or services. Apply online for prequalification. The interest rate is currently 8.74% for small business loans. * You will need your ComEd account number to complete the application. You may apply for both electric and natural gas energy-efficiency measures on the same application. Our vendor, Slipstream/EFS, processes all applications and makes all loan determinations. EFS is the capital provider and financial services subsidiary of Slipstream. Funds for this program are limited.

Available Small Business Financing

High-efficiency central air conditioning systems, air source heat pumps. Qualifying products that meet the eligibility requirements of the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program Heating and Cooling Rebates offering may also qualify for an Energy Efficiency Loan. Rebates are available from ComEd for these products, plus more.
