Thousands of households have saved on the cost of energy supply with ComEd's Hourly Pricing. Typical participants have saved an average of more than 15 percent compared to what they would have paid for electricity on the standard ComEd fixed-price rate.
ComEd's Hourly Pricing lets you pay a rate based on hourly market prices for electricity. You can manage your costs by running appliances like the dishwasher when the price of electricity is lower, such as nights and weekends.
If your monthly electric bill is greater than $50 then Hourly Pricing could be a good option. This rate can be particularly beneficial for people who heat their homes with electricity, own a plug-in electric vehicle, or are able to shift electricity use to off-peak times.
Enrollment in this innovative rate requires the installation of an electric meter capable of measuring and recording electric usage in hourly intervals. If a smart meter(s) has already been installed at your premise, that meter(s) can be used to participate in Hourly Pricing. If you do not yet have a smart meter, other than your current monthly standard metering charge, there is no additional monthly meter lease fee for this hourly recording meter and you will not pay a fee for exchanging the meter. The exemption from the monthly meter lease fee and the meter exchange fee only applies to the first meter. If a customer has more than one meter participating in the program at their premises, this customer is subject to a regular monthly meter lease fee and a meter exchange fee for each additional hourly recording meter. Each meter associated with your ComEd account must be exchanged for an hourly recording meter in order to participate in Hourly Pricing.
Participants may request to leave Hourly Pricing at any time; however, they may not rejoin the rate again for a period of 12 months following the termination.
Individual cost savings are not guaranteed and will vary month to month based on weather, market conditions, and usage habits. However, the more participants avoid using electricity when hourly prices are high, the more they can potentially save. Program participants will have access to hourly prices, and can opt in to receive high price notifications and alerts in addition to other useful information.
Additionally, Hourly Pricing participants who have central air conditioning units, Internet access, and participate in ComEd Central A/C Cycling can also participate in Hourly Pricing's Load Guard Automated Price Response Service. Load Guard is an innovative "set-and-forget" feature that is designed to automatically cycle a participant's central air conditioning unit "off and on" during summer hours when the price of electricity is trending high. Learn more about Load Guard in our FAQs.
