ComEd Voluntary Load Reduction (VLR) program offers all commercial customers financial rewards for reducing electricity use during peak usage period. This program is strictly voluntary. If a customer cannot participate there are never any penalties. Incentives will vary depending upon market and/or system conditions. Participants consist of customers with a demand usage ranging from 45 MW to 20 kW. A minimum of 10 kW of peak hour load response is all that is required to participate. This program is open to all business customers, regardless of their electric supplier.
If you're a commercial, industrial or public sector customer located within the ComEd service territory (whether you receive your electric supply from ComEd or not) and have the potential to reduce electric demand by at least 10 kW when requested to do so, you may qualify to participate in the Voluntary Load Reduction (VLR) program.
For many businesses, participating in the VLR demand response program can be as easy as dimming the lights, setting thermostats higher in the summer, or shutting down unused office equipment without normally impacting productivity.
