Public buildings located in distressed communities may qualify to receive FREE lighting kits and highly incentivized HVAC upgrades from the ComEd® Energy Efficiency Program!
Through the public buildings in distressed communities offering, ComEd provides lighting kits at no charge to qualified public sector entities. We also work with Energy Efficiency Service Providers to provide incentives that can cover up to 100% of project costs for the implementation of money-saving heating, ventilation, and air conditioning improvements for buildings that qualify. The incentive is determined by the amount of energy saved – the more saved, the greater the incentive.
Your public sector facility may be eligible for FREE energy-efficient lighting kits and incentives that can cover up to 100% of the cost of HVAC upgrades!
The enhancements provided through this offering can help lower your energy bills and reduce maintenance costs.
For example, LED lights use about 75% less energy and last 25 times longer, on average, than traditional lighting sources. HVAC accounts for nearly a third of the energy used in a typical public sector building. New technologies and tune-ups of existing equipment can help those systems operate more efficiently, saving considerable energy.
Lower the risk of accidents and enhance security with LED lights. LEDs burn out less frequently, reach full brightness instantly, and deliver clear and crisp illumination.
When HVAC systems are operating at peak efficiency, they deliver improved air quality and more consistent temperatures throughout the building.
Public sector organizations – including but not limited to municipalities, townships, counties, school districts, park districts, police and fire departments, library districts, and state and federal agencies – with buildings located in communities designated by ComEd as eligible.* To find out if your building qualifies, email PublicSectorEE@ComEd.com or call 855-433-2700.
Installation of HVAC equipment may be conducted by in-house staff or a program-approved Illinois Commerce Commission Certified Energy Efficiency Measure Installer. Lighting equipment may be installed by in-house staff or a contractor of your choice, however, additional costs related to lighting installation are not reimbursed.
Following a site visit by a ComEd energy expert to identify potential energy efficiency opportunities, we’ll provide a report outlining recommended projects and options. It’s your choice which opportunities to pursue, including which lighting kit products to order.
*To determine community eligibility, ComEd uses data from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Economic Innovation Group. This data factors poverty rates, unemployment rates, median income, education levels, and housing vacancy rates.
