Go beyond common retrofits and earn incentives through the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program for facility and process improvements that save energy.
Custom incentives are based on actual energy savings, and options include everything from custom lighting to installing a cogeneration plant. Whether you’re installing new light fixtures, adding variable speed drives (VSDs) to equipment motors or making process system enhancements, ComEd can help make your project more cost effective.
Take advantage of incentives that range from 7 to 21 cents per kWh saved depending on your project. Certain upgrades to water and wastewater treatment facilities can earn up to 21 cents per kWh saved. Measurement and verification may be required, but is typically waived for projects with incentives of $25,000 or less. ComEd offers FREE tools to help you estimate your project's potential energy savings and incentive. It’s easier than ever to turn your energy-saving ideas into reality!

A customer achieved energy savings by replacing 17 stand-alone process chiller units with a more efficient 150-ton central chiller system. In addition to the incentives they received from ComEd, they saved more than 180,000 kWh with a payback of less than one year!
Elevator Regenerative Drive
Project Cost |
$141,758 |
Incentive Received |
$29,556 |
Estimated Annual Energy Savings |
$246,302 kWh |
Estimated Annual Cost Savings |
$22,044 |
Estimated Payback Period |

This customer installed regenerative drives to power their nine-story building’s six elevator banks efficiently. Instead of wasting the energy generated by an elevator’s counterbalance and dispersing it into heat within the machine room, regenerative drives store and use that energy later. That translates to lower cooling, operating and maintenance costs.
Variable Speed Drives
Project Cost |
$89,500 |
Incentive Received |
$48,000 |
Estimated Annual Energy Savings |
400,000 kWh |
Estimated Annual Cost Savings |
$35,000 |
Estimated Payback Period |
1.2 years |
A manufacturing customer installed variable speed drives to their screw machines. The machines use less energy, and give operators better control of their specialized manufacturing equipment.
Refrigerated Cases
Project Cost |
$364,335 |
Incentive Received |
$192,000 |
Estimated Annual Energy Savings |
1,600,000 kWh |
Estimated Annual Cost Savings |
$170,000 |
Estimated Payback Period |
1 year |
A major grocery store chain installed 300 new high-efficiency refrigerated cases throughout nine of its stores. The cases included electronically commutated motors, LED lighting and other features to help them save energy while keeping food fresh.
Lighting
Project Cost |
$24,900 |
Incentive Received |
$6,100 |
Estimated Annual Energy Savings |
87,000 kWh |
Estimated Annual Cost Savings |
$6,500 |
Estimated Payback Period |
4 years |
A 29,000-square-foot manufacturing facility went beyond the minimum code requirements and installed high-efficiency LED high-bay light fixtures with motion sensors. The new fixtures gave them the ability to control energy use, and the new lighting brightened up the facility.
Water-Side Economizer
Project Cost |
$65,000 |
Incentive Received |
$24,000 |
Estimated Annual Energy Savings |
200,000 kWh |
Estimated Annual Cost Savings |
$22,000 |
Estimated Payback Period |
1.8 years |
To provide more energy-efficient cooling to their process line, a manufacturer replaced their existing cooling tower with a new economizer and circulation fans/pumps. The project significantly reduced energy and water consumption, achieving a payback time of less than two years.
