Emerging Technologies

ComEd is seeking new energy efficiency concepts that can generate sustainable verified energy savings with the potential of being introduced as a new energy-efficient technology and/or practice to be included in the ComEd Smart Ideas® Energy Efficiency Program.

How It Works

ComEd is searching for technologies that are commercially available and practices that have proven results in saving energy. The concepts can be new or existing. Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the ComEd Emerging Technology Team along with an opportunity assessment that describes how the concept will add to the existing ComEd customer product offerings. The opportunity assessment must include a description of the following:

  • Targeted market sector (Residential, Commercial or Industrial)
  • Concept focus (e.g., Sustainable Design, System Integration, Operations)
  • Available industry or secondary data proving energy savings
  • Pilot or demonstration assessment of concept if needed
  • Installation costs, incremental cost to the customer and estimated energy savings

The technology must be cost-effective as required by Illinois law. Accepted concepts will be considered for available rebates as long as the project is completed within the ComEd service territory through the ComEd Smart Ideas® Energy Efficiency Program.
