Learn about electric vehicles and explore how your school can participate.
With the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in the communities around us, we believe this is a great time to incorporate education and awareness around EV technology into existing Driver Education programs. We are ready to support you both in the classroom and behind the wheel with our Electric Vehicles for Education program.
This innovative program focuses on teaching students about EV technology. Your students will learn:
To be considered for selection in the Electric Vehicles for Education program, you need to be willing to add an EV to your existing fleet of driver education vehicles. While EV pricing is becoming more competitive, the initial purchase cost tends to be higher than traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. In this program, ComEd offers to provide funding to cover all or most of the purchase cost of a new EV.
A charging station (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) is also necessary and often requires upfront work to allow for installation. This program also offers funding to offset the cost associated with the purchase and installation of a dual-port Level 2 (L2) Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.
In order to be considered for participation in this limited program, each school must submit a completed application and meet the following requirements:
Provide young drivers the opportunity to use an electric vehicle and learn the benefits they provide with our ComEd Electric Vehicles for Education program.

A free energy-saving educational program for your school!
Energy Action Team is a comprehensive program that educates students about energy conservation and natural resource use, brought to schools by ComEd, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. Students will learn important lessons about resources and conservation through a 35-minute online show featuring a host who accompanies them through a video-game world with oddball (but hardworking!) creatures Proton, Pilot and Glurg. This virtual production will teach, entertain and inspire students to consider their own energy impact and how they can make a difference for the planet.
Each participating 5th-grade student and teacher will receive a free energy savings kit for their home with hands-on tools designed to turn education into action. Kits contain valuable products such as high-efficiency showerheads, ENERGY STAR® certified LED bulbs, faucet aerators and more.

Students serve as ambassadors at local events.
The ComEd Youth Ambassador Program is a seven-week summer program for high school students, ages 14 to 18. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the benefits of solar power and how to manage energy use. The students then serve as ambassadors at local community events throughout the summer, helping peers, neighbors and residents better understand their solar energy options and how to better manage their energy use.
