Bronzeville Film Festival

Commonwealth Edison Company ("ComEd") sponsors and organizes the Bronzeville Film Festival for high school and college students in Bronzeville. 

The festival is for a student to envision and submit a short documentary film on the central theme of Community of the Past; Community of the Future depicting Bronzeville's historic legacy as well as emerging challenges like climate change that would impact the community in the future.

The following is a general guideline regarding the submission of short documentary films to Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) for consideration for the 2020 Bronzeville Film Festival.

Important Deadlines

  • All films must be submitted by February 29, 2020. No Entry Fee required.
  • The Festival will be held in March 2020.
  • Winners will be announced by the end of March 2020.
  • Winners will be sponsored by ComEd to present their film in Cannes TV & Media Festival in France in June 2020.


The winner of each track, high school, and college, will be awarded $5000.


The participants must be high school, college, or grad students.

How to Enter

Projects must be submitted online:

  • The video must be uploaded on Vimeo video-streaming website.
  • A password-protected URL of the film, created through Vimeo, should be submitted by 11:59 pm, February 29, 2020, to

Content Criteria

  • The subject of the project should align with the theme of the project explained in "Introduction"
  • The film should NOT be more than 15 minutes

Submitted films will be judged based on:

  • Content
    • Quality of depicting the topic
    • Identifying the problem and the solution
  • Plot (Is the theme and/or story clear?)
  • Call to action (Does the storyline move people to action?)
  • Creativity /Ingenuity
  • Following Rules
