Billing Update

New Account Number Coming Soon!

In February 2024 we are launching our new customer billing system designed to deliver an improved customer experience. To find your new account number, use our new online look-up tool.

Your account number will change and, if you currently set up your ComEd bill to be paid directly through a bank or other financial institution's bill pay service, you will need to update your account number on or after February 20, 2024 to ensure your payments are applied to your account.

Your bill will also have a new look, the colors and logo will be revised to align with recent brand updates.

Business customer bills will be redesigned to now look more like a residential customer’s energy bill. This change will make it easier to read and understand your business’s supply, delivery and taxes & fees charges.

Billing & Payments

Bank or Other Financial Institution

If you set up your ComEd bill to be paid directly through your bank or other financial institution's bill pay service, you’ll need to update your account number in February 2024 to help ensure your payments are applied to your account.

Automatic Payment

If you’re enrolled in ComEd Automatic Payment (AutoPay) through ComEd.com, no action is necessary! Your account number will be updated automatically. Your monthly payments will continue to be withdrawn from your checking or savings account and applied to your new account number. You don’t need to do anything!

Budget Billing

If you’re enrolled in Budget Billing, in addition to receiving a new account number in February 2024, we will review your monthly billing amount every three months vs. every six months. If your average bill amount over the last 12 months changes by more than 20% compared to your prior budget bill amount, your budget bill amount will be adjusted accordingly, to keep your payment in line with your actual usage.

Why is my ComEd account number changing?

After more than 25 years, ComEd’s customer billing system is being upgraded. This new, more sophisticated system will help us better serve our more than 4 million residential and business customers.

How is my new ComEd account number different from my old account number?

Your new ComEd account number is uniquely yours and will follow you everywhere. Whether you start a new service, move to a new address, or even close your account and open another account later, your new account number will stay the same. *

*In limited circumstances, your account number may need to change.

I receive my bill by email because I am enrolled in ComEd’s eBill program. Do I need to do anything?

No action needs to be taken if you enrolled in eBill through ComEd.com or the ComEd mobile app.

However, if you currently set up your ComEd bill to be paid directly through your bank or financial institution's bill pay service, you’ll need to update your ComEd Payee record with your new account number to ensure your payments are properly applied to your new account.

I’m on Budget Billing. Am I impacted?

Yes. In addition to receiving a new account number in February 2024, we will also review your monthly billing amounts every three months instead of every six as it is done now. If your average bill amount over the last 12 months changes by more than 20% compared to your prior budget bill amount, your budget bill amount will be adjusted accordingly.

If you are on Budget Billing and also participate in the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) or Supplemental Arrearage Reduction Program (SARP) payment assistance plans, your budget amount will continue to follow the current adjustment schedule (i.e., no changes).

I receive Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and/or Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) assistance to pay my ComEd bill. What do I need to do?

Your Local Administrative Agency will need your new ComEd account number to process applications for assistance. After ComEd’s conversion to the new system is complete, you can find your new account number on your ComEd bill (see sample bill picture above). Customers will only need to provide the new bill and account number to your local administering agency (LAA) upon request during your LIHEAP application or PIPP recertification process. PIPP customers already enrolled in the program will continue to receive those benefits. No additional action on your part will be required.

I get my energy supply from a company other than ComEd. Does this new ComEd account number impact me?

Yes. Even if ComEd doesn’t supply your energy, you’ll still get a new ComEd account number.

What is the Electric Choice ID number on my ComEd bill?

The 10-digit Electric Choice ID number is a new component of your bill that will be used if you choose to participate in Community Solar or purchase electricity supply from a company other than ComEd. You will still get a new account number and be used in communications with ComEd. Your new Electric Choice ID numbers will be used in communications with your Retail Electric Supplier and/or Community Solar Provider. Your Electric Choice ID is located in the Service Address box on the 2nd page of your ComEd bill.

You will have a different Electric Choice ID number for every home, premise or business location regardless of whether ComEd or another company supplies your electricity.

Your Electric Choice ID number will change whenever you move to a new address.

Note: Your Electric Choice ID is not the same as your account number. Only use your account number to submit payments to ComEd.

Do I need to enter my Electric Choice ID number into the ComEd Payee information in my bank’s or financial institution’s bill pay account?

No. Only your ComEd account number needs to be updated in your ComEd Payee information. Payments are applied to your account based on your new ComEd account number, not your Electric Choice ID.

For payments submitted directly to ComEd, only your account number needs to be included in your ComEd Payee information, since ComEd applies payments to your account based on your account number.

If you've elected a split payment or single bill option where your supplier bills you directly for some or all of your electricity charges, contact your Retail Electric Supplier to determine whether they need only your Electric Choice ID or both the Electric Choice ID and your ComEd account number.

I’m a landlord or property manager with several rental homes, apartments or buildings. Will I be affected?

Yes. Each property, home, apartment, condominium and business location will be assigned a new account number regardless of whether ComEd or another company supplies your electricity.

In addition to receiving a new account number for each property, for landlords that use the Property Management Portal to manage their rental units, the look and the feel of the portal is being updated.

For landlords that have an active landlord agreement (LLA), the properties covered by your LLA will continue to revert back to the name of the landlord when the premise is vacant, same as it does today.

There are a handful of landlords that took advantage of the "Home Account" to capture transferred charges from their landlord account and unfortunately, the "Home Account" will be eliminated when we transition to the new system.

I’m thinking of subscribing to a Community Solar provider. Do I need to do anything?

Yes. Instead of using your ComEd account number, you will need to provide your Community Solar provider with your new Electric Choice ID number that in February 2024 will be located on the 2nd page of your ComEd bill in the Service Address box, once the new system is in place.

For customers with an existing relationship with a Community Solar Supplier, ComEd will share the Electric Choice ID number with the supplier so those customers won’t need to take any additional action.

I’m a business owner with multiple retail locations. How does this new ComEd account number affect me?

Each of your retail locations will receive a new ComEd account number. If you currently set up your ComEd bill to be paid directly through a bank or other financial institution's bill pay service, you’ll need to update your account number in February 2024 to help ensure your payments are correctly applied to your accounts.

Should I do anything before receiving my new account number?

Yes. Consider enrolling in AutoPay. Your payment is automatically deducted from your bank account each month on its due date. Once enrolled, you won’t need to update your banking information with your new ComEd account number!
