Publication honors utilities that go above and beyond to support economic growth of businesses and communities
CHICAGO (Sept. 20, 2019) – Site Selection magazine has named ComEd a Top 20 utility for the company’s contribution to Economic Development in the communities it serves. In recognizing the energy company, the publication cited its hard work, ferocious teamwork and the will to drive economic growth in the communities they serve. Selected from more than 3,300 electric companies across the country, ComEd is among the top 1 percent of all utility economic development teams.
The magazine attributed ComEd’s success in part to leveraging its extensive energy efficiency programs, which has empowered more than 88,000 business customers to earn more than $660 million in incentives and realize more than $1.5 billion in cost savings since 2018.
"This recognition highlights our focus on stimulating investment from savings, economic growth and energy efficiency throughout northern Illinois," said Melissa Washington, Senior Vice President of Governmental and External Affairs for ComEd. "Together with our local, regional and state partners, we continue to provide innovation, savings and value to our customers, prospective businesses and the communities we serve."
The publication also acknowledged ComEd’s work to help pass new tax incentives to help the continued growth of data centers in Illinois and the impact of the Future Energy Jobs Act in pivoting Illinois toward a clean energy economy.
"We applaud ComEd’s long-term commitment to economic development and the continued recognition of their proactive efforts to grow the Illinois economy," said Jack Lavin, President and CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce in a separate statement. "The Illinois competitive energy market and ComEd’s continued strong energy reliability performance and innovative energy efficiency programs are important assets that help our businesses thrive."
This is the 6th consecutive year that ComEd has been recognized by Site Selection magazine for its economic development efforts. To read the full article, go to https://siteselection.com/issues/2019/sep/top-utilities-corridors-of-power.cfm.
