CHICAGO (Sept. 19, 2018) – In recognition of ComEd's contribution to its local economy and communities, Site Selection magazine has named the company to its annual list of the Top 10 Utilities in Economic Development for 2018. ComEd has been recognized by Site Selection five years in a row with Top Ten listings in 2015, 2017, and 2018 and honorable mention listings in 2014 and 2016.
The magazine credits the ComEd economic development team's successful collaboration with state and regional partners for delivering a total projected capital investment of more than $975 million and over 900 new jobs across northern Illinois. ComEd's "rapid response" economic development program provides hands-on, personalized guidance to companies considering expanding in northern Illinois. The effort brings together all business unit partners – from operations to capacity to regulatory – early in the process to expedite cost and engineering information to support the prospective company's decision-making process. In addition, this approach helps ensure companies maximize cost savings through energy efficiency programs and consider solar energy options.
ComEd plays an important role in attracting companies to northern Illinois by providing safe, reliable and competitively priced electricity. Since the passage of the Smart Grid Law by the Illinois Legislature in 2011, ComEd invested $2.6 billion to modernize the energy grid to build a stronger, more reliable smart grid. Customers have experienced record reliability over the past five years, including an overall reliability rate of 99.98 percent last year. In addition, the number of customers experiencing an outage of 12 hours or more during storms is down more than 80 percent.
