Company encourages customers to follow power line and flooding safety tips
CHICAGO (July 12, 2017) – ComEd crews are working to restore power to customers in impacted areas after severe storms with heavy rain, damaging winds up to 50 mph and lightning moved through northern Illinois today, with more strong storms expected to develop in the evening. Over 77,000 ComEd customers have been affected by the storms, with close to 68,000 restored. ComEd currently has more than 500 crews working around the clock to restore customers as quickly and as safely as possible.
"We have seen two rounds of storms move through the area and are monitoring as additional severe weather is possible this evening. Our team is taking precautions to minimize the impact of the storms on our system," said Terence R. Donnelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer, ComEd. "Our goal is to respond quickly and safely to any impact to our customers."
Hardest hit communities include Elgin, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Evanston, Crystal Lake, and Highland Park. In order to bring more focus to areas with significant storm damage, ComEd has sent its field incident command vehicles to Highland Park and Plato to aid restoration.
