ComEd received a 2015 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award. This Award is the longest running sustainability award in the country and recognizes organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices.
ComEd named 2015 WasteWise Large Business Partner of the Year. The USEPA recognized ComEd for “Outstanding Waste Reduction Achievements” with this Award. ComEd was one of only seven companies to be recognized throughout the entire United States this year. WasteWise is a voluntary reporting program that helps organizations and businesses increase recycling and apply sustainable materials management practices to reduce municipal and select industrial wastes.
ComEd awarded “Wildlife at Work” certification/recertification from the Wildlife Habitat Council for one new prairie site in 2015, bringing the total WHC certifications that ComEd retains to eight. The Wildlife Habitat Council’s Wildlife at Work program provides cooperative efforts between management, employees and community members to create, conserve, and restore wildlife habitats.
ComEd received the USEPA Organizational and Team Leadership Award for SF6 management in 2014. SF6 is a highly effective insulating gas that is used in electrical equipment. This award recognizes ComEd’s program and commitment to proper SF6 management.
At ComEd, safety has always been a staple of our service. The greatest reward for this commitment is, of course, a history of safe practices. While we carry on that legacy by continually looking for ways to improve the safety of our practices, we are grateful for the recognition we've received in this area from the Illinois Safety Council.
EEI Safety Achievement Award - for reaching 1,902,392 hours without a lost work day case.
S.A.F.E (Safety Awareness Focus on Excellence) Award - Awarded as a result of our numerous safety programs, employee and upper management involvement, goal setting and accountability, training, and weekly Safety Council Meetings.
Individual Heroism Award - Ed Suarez, Account Representative, received this award for his heroic efforts in rescuing an 80 year old woman from an oncoming Metra train in Western Springs, IL in December 2014.
Individual Heroism Award - Carlos Guevara, Account Manager, received this award for his heroics efforts in saving a man who had stopped breathing during a church service. Guevara used his CPR skills that ComEd offered for its employees through the American Red Cross.

The Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council (ChicagoMSDC) named ComEd the “Corporation of the Year,” honoring the company for its continued efforts to develop and expand relationships with local minority and women-owned businesses (2015).
Excellence in Corporate Leadership Award (2014) - Awarded from the Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations, which honors one business leader who has demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Top 10 Utilities in Economic Development - Site Selection magazine has named ComEd to its annual list of Top 10 Utilities in Economic Development for 2015 in its September edition. The magazine credits ComEd’s economic development team and its successful collaboration with state and local partners for delivering a total projected capital investment of more than $3 billion and nearly 22,000 new jobs across northern Illinois.
Smart Ideas® Energy Efficiency Program - ComEd has received several awards recognizing the marketing efforts of the Smart Ideas® Energy Efficiency Program, including: BCC Award (2015); Telly Award (2015); Esource Marketing Award (2015); For the fourth consecutive year, ComEd received ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year — Sustained Excellence recognition, making 2016 the eighth consecutive year of recognition from the U.S. EPA for its delivery of energy efficiency programs.; View a complete list of Energy Efficiency Awards: Award List (pdf).
Emergency Recovery Award - ComEd’s Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Response Organization won the EEI Emergency Response Award for our response during the June 22, 2015 supercell thunderstorms that produced torrential rainfall along with 12 confirmed tornadoes in Illinois, 11 of which were in ComEd’s service territory affecting ~63,000 customers.
Emergency Recovery Award - The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) awarded ComEd for its outstanding efforts in restoring electric service to more than 425,000 customers impacted by the double derecho and tornado events in June 2014.
