Our recycling program is turning office paper, metal, and oil into new opportunities. Thanks to the commitment and diligence of ComEd employees, we’re recycling tons of materials in the office and in the field — reducing our carbon footprint, cutting the amount of waste going into landfills and saving the company money.
Project HERE (Helping the Environment by Recycling at Exelon) increased recycling more than 5% in 2008, to more than 1.9 million pounds, compared to the previous year. This includes office waste, such as paper, cardboard, plastic and glass containers, and aluminum cans. A battery recycling program piloted in 2008 was expanded in 2009.
Industrial Recycling incorporates recycling of copper, aluminum, steel, transformers and oil. In 2008, more than 15 million pounds of metals and more than half a million gallons of oil were recycled.
Our recycling efforts produce outstanding results. These two programs offset thousands of tons of carbon emissions. Together, we can continue to build on our success by taking advantage of every opportunity to recycle on the job.
