ComEd received ISO 14001 Certification of its Environmental Management System (EMS) in November 2008. ISO 14001 Certification is the globally recognized “gold” standard for promoting effective, systematic management of environmental risks and liabilities. ISO 14001 contributes to ComEd’s goal of implementing an EMS and our position as an industry environmental leader.
ComEd’s EMS is a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving the processes and actions that we undertake to meet our business and environmental goals.
Built on the "Plan, Do, Check, Act" model, our EMS enables ComEd:
- to systematically manage our environmental risks and liabilities
- improve environmental performance by clarifying environmental accountabilities, roles, responsibilities and developing consistent environmental programs across the business
- integrate environmental concerns and performance improvements into business decision-making and planning
- improve business performance as environmental costs are better managed, planned for, and reduced over time
- increase credibility and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders.
