Music In ComEdÕs Energy Efficiency Program, they offer a LED street lighting incentive. The Village of Carol Stream had been participating in the state run DCEO Program. And when ComEd took that over we were eager to continue to participate. Carol Stream had done some street lights in prior years and had seen the benefits of doing so. We determined that when we replaced the high-pressure sodium light, that we were getting about a 50% reduction in energy consumption, in addition to experiencing fewer outages, fewer maintenance requests, and getting better overall light quality. These lights are cleaner. TheyÕre brighter, and weÕre also experiencing less residential spill. So weÕre not getting those lights in places where we donÕt want them. Some municipalities have the staff and have the availability to do the project them selves. Others donÕt, and so they hire out a contractor to do the work for them. ItÕs just depends whatÕs best for that municipality. People are liking that itÕs easier to see, and that weÕre saving on energy consumption. I met a lot of the residents that really care about the village taking a sustainable stand in areas that it makes sense.
